Introduction

Hello everyone, my name is Anita Grobelny, but I'd like to be called Anika. I was born and raised in Walnut Creek, California. My parents are from Poland. I am first generation in the U.S as well as a first generation college student. Being a first generation college student, it is hard that your parents were unable to help me with school when I was younger, but it taught me to get a lot of things done on my own. I am studying managerial economics, and this will be my last year at UC Davis. I look forward to take a break from my math driven economics classes, and learn about Images of America and Americans in Popular Culture. Growing up I had a creative eye and was very crafty, but picking a major that is very math, theory, and business oriented, I have had to take a break being creative. I am looking forward to the mapping assignment and hope that my creative ideas will come back to me. Brainstorming ideas for this project I have realized that it will be hard for me. What I want people to know about me is that I am very involved with my Polish community. Growing up I attended Polish school every Saturday for 15 years. I can speak, write, and read Polish fluently. Overall, I look forward to this class and have found that the readings in class are interesting.
