Curved and Multiple Screens

Reading about Cinerama made me really curious to experience it myself. I have not gone to Imax in a long time, in fact I think the last time I saw a movie in Imax was back when Polar Express got released as a movie. It really stuck out to me how Cinerama was used in the Cold War, with Americans saying that it was an extremely American thing and how apparently the Russians stole their idea. When they talked about “This is Cinerama” having clips of them flying through the air, making the audience seem like they were flying, I was immediately reminded of the ride in Disneyland.

To me “Glimpses of America” had an interesting set up. It really tried to portray America living with a lot of conveniences. At one point all five screens showed houses with pools, a very luxurious thing. I got a sense that the information was overwhelming when people saw it at the fair, even though I personally didn't feel like it was particularly going fast. Maybe its because I already accepted that I wouldn't be able to see everything in detail and just looked at it as a whole. Its interesting to me how in presenting so much information in this fashion the viewers were not suppose to get any concrete facts but just a general sense and feeling about America.
