The Sublime and the Grid

I feel that the sublime is something that is hard to enjoy in modern day America. Because of the advancement of technology, there are a lot of pressure on kids today who need to learn the extra knowledge needed to master technology. This makes it hard for students to spend time enjoy the natural part of life, leaving them only to have time to take a peek at the outside world through a digital wall they call computers. As a computer science major, I feel that this is very true. I never actually considered looking at the world for what it is. Instead, I am too busy with my studies and part time job to stop and take a look at the natural architecture of this world. When I'm biking to work or school, I put on my ear buds to hear the electronic waves created by technological devices made today instead of the howl of the wind. The world is not as artificial as mother nature. When I saw that the borders created by man kind, I was surprised that there is no obvious border. Rather the "border" is only created and written on a map. Although we may perceive the world the way the education system teaches us, we fail to see the world as it actually is. The world is sublime. There is no grid, mother nature cannot be tamed. Although maps are extremely helpful to the world and is a huge technological improvement, it is important what the world actually looks like.
